The film Industry.
It’s a scary complicated business and a massive one at that. Furthermore, it’s the one that I want to be in. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been watching movies. They’re my favourite. Only recently, however, have I really had a passion in leaving my mark in this creatively-rich industry. Prior to that I just considered myself a bit of a film buff, eagerly waiting on new releases and speculating with my brother about how the next film in our favourite franchises would go. I would sit there thinking about how that Godzilla roar was made, how they created the Uruk-hai voices and why were punches in John Wick so damn loud?! It was a good time and makes up a huge part of my youth and life today.
In my second-to-last year of high school I decided I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted, and to this day want, to leave my legacy within film. I have a dream of seeing my name scroll through the credits of a major blockbuster film. To put my own personal mark upon amazing cinematic marvels.
Now, I know it’s a huge dream and one that would’ve been impossible a decade or two before here in New Zealand. Through the hard work of NZ film-makers like Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, Taika Waititi etc. there is now a potential path for us aspiring fools who want to take this tough and uncertain road.
Yeah, it’s tough. Yeah, there’s no specific pathway to get to where I want to be.
But I’d rather be a fool than not try at all.
